He is the founder of the Zikit Theater and the "Puppets in the North" Festival, the first bilingual puppetry festival.

Biography[עריכה]

Ariel was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and immigrated to Israel in 1971. He completed his creative education studies at the Kibbutzim College in 1974. He was among the founders of the Jerusalem "Kav Group," along with Jonathan Ben-Haim, Mario Jorge Kotliar, and others. From 1973 to 1978, he directed and acted in numerous plays with the group. His first directed play, "Colour Stories," was even nominated for the David Violin Award.

In 1978, Ariel directed his first concert, a collaboration between the Kav Group and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. That same year, he embarked on a world tour, performing solo shows at festivals and theaters in France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, and Uruguay. Upon his return to Israel in 1982, Ariel developed the field of outdoor performances at festivals, including street theater. Since then, he has directed and participated in dozens of street shows in Israel and around the world.

Since 1991, Ariel has also been working with symphony orchestras, where he combines visual performances with classical music. As of 2017, Ariel had written and directed 40 different combined concerts, including operas, ballet performances, plays, puppet theater, and more.

In 2002, he was invited to perform a series of concerts with the Symphony Orchestra of Concepción, Chile, and from 2007 to 2009, he performed a similar series of concerts with the Symphony Orchestra of Chihuahua,

He is married with four children and resides in Mitzpe Abirim in the Galilee.

Family Concerts

Directed and produced family concerts that blend orchestral music with various performing arts, in collaboration with the symphony orchestras of Haifa, Beer Sheva, and Jerusalem, as well as the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. He also produced concerts for orchestras in Chile and Mexico.

Television

Participated in the children's program "Sesame Street" as the puppeteer for Moisha Opnik. Also featured in the shows "I Have a Story" and "Concerton".

Artistic Direction

Served as the artistic director for outdoor events at the Israel Festival, the 40th Medina Celebrations, the Acre Festival, and the Haifa Children's Theater Festival. Additionally, directed for the Theater for the Deaf in Ma'ar and the Zikit Theater.

Additional Productions in Israel

Produced the series of films and games "A Place for Everyone," addressing social rejection among children. This series is part of the Ministry of Education's Life Skills Program. Also produced a series of educational films on human rights, used in the Israeli education system and in many other countries through peace organizations and international human rights organizations. Created a series of short films to reduce children's fear during the Gulf War.

Workshops on creative thinking

Ariel also develops and leads workshops on creative thinking for professionals across various fields in Israel and worldwide. He has collaborated with organizations such as the Golda Meir Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, and the Union of Social Workers. Ariel has also conducted similar workshops in Japan, Singapore, Argentina, Chile, and Peru.

- *2007* – First prize at the Children's Theater Festival in Haifa for the play "Sofia's Drawings," which he wrote and directed.

- *2009* – First prize at the International Children's Theater Festival in Targovishte, Bulgaria, for the play "Celebration," which he wrote and directed.

- *2009* – Mayor's Award at the Acre Festival for "Whispering Alleys," which he wrote and directed.

- *2017* – First prize for children's plays at the 8th FITIJ Festival in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, for the play "Grandpa's Gift," which he wrote and directed.
