Elderly Caregivers Day* - is an international day dedicated to elderly caregivers in nursing and retirement homes. The day is celebrated on the 8 of August. Beginning in 2019, its mission is to honor caregivers and thank them for taking care of the elderly population on a every day basis 24/7*

Background[עריכה]

This day was launched in 2019 by the management of an Israeli nursing home "Neve Oranim" in Gedera after three difficult years when nursing homes were reviewed in the media due to violent incidents.

Caregivers are the central force of any nursing home; their work is difficult and requires a lot of mental and emotional resources. People who do this work need support, appreciation and respect in order to keep doing their work with love and patience.

Establishing an elderly caregivers day is one big and symbolic step in making these workers valuable.

History[עריכה]

In June 2019 the management of a nursing home "Neve Oranim" decided that elderly caregivers all over Israel should receive a significant place in the professional community. They initiated the elderly caregivers' day and chose the 8.8 as a symbolic date; The similarity between the number 8 and the "infinity" sign symbolized the infinite giving of the caregivers to the residents of nursing homes.
Neve Oranim called all nursing homes around the state of Israel to join them.
